Brit Rock Revolution

Brit Rock Revolution
Saturday May 13th 7.00pm
The Borderline
Manette St, Soho, London W1D 4JB

Kids across the planet are suddenly rediscovering the thrill of rock music. They're dissatisfied with a pop culture that amounts to little more than a seemingly endless conveyor belt of bland and contrived non-entities. Bands and artists are embracing the energy, spirit and spontaneity of rock'n'roll.

London has become the vanguard of the scene. Bands have grown tired of constant venue closures, noise complaints and a bleaker future and have resorted to putting on gigs in basements, rehearsal rooms and even in the street.

Whilst tipping their hat to the past, these bands are not content to re-hash history, and have reinvigorated rock'n'roll with a new energy and much needed urgency, forsaking the bloated rock posturing of yesteryear.

With guerrilla shows, DIY festivals and independent record releases, The Brit Rock Revolution gives a much needed jolt to the UK's recently flagging grass roots music scene. This very special evening presents some of the best of a mind-blowing new movement.

Bands on the night include East London-based Aidan Connell with his 3 piece power trio The Electric Co. Having already clocked up plays on Teamrock, Planet Rock and Resonance FM, praise from Jeff Beck and supports with Gary Clark Jr and Seasick Steve, Aidan releases his stunning debut album GRIO on CD and vinyl – July 14th.

The raucous Pink Cigar bring together elements of Punk and New Glam in their cacophonous anthems for the gilted generation. The group have just completed a record with Mick Jones of The Clash alongside tours of Europe and the US.

Anglo-Italian Rockers Fireyed's energetic live show is captured on their debut album 'From The Ground Floor' which mixes angry blue collar moments with tracks that aspire to rock arenas. They've toured relentlessly, opening for the likes of Tygers Of Pan Tang and members of Iron Maiden.

Picking up the mantle of The Yardbirds, Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Ten Years After and Cream, an exciting collection of young bands and blues artists are reinvigorating London's live music scene.
Firmly rooted in the tradition of electric blues masters like Muddy Waters, Albert King and Howlin’ Wolf, these artists are not content to tread familiar ground.
They are determined to reinterpret the well worn blues genre with freshness and a much needed urgency, including elements of soul, rock and psychedelia. This new revived blues also reflects the stresses and struggles of Britain today.
Standout acts include the East London-based Aidan Connell with his 3 piece blues rock power trio, having already clocked up plays on Radio 2 and supported Gary Clark Jr and Seasick Steve.
Essex's Molly's Daggers with their combustible duel guitar freak outs reminiscent of Humble Pie at their best.
The Blues harp led The Wang Dang Doodle named in honour of Howlin' Wolf's  Willie Dixon penned classic, combine the energy of Dr Feelgood and class of Little Walter.
South London based Sonic Jewels bring  garage rock and psychedelia to the blues with their own brand of kinks-esque pop songs.
Relative newcomers Southbound have elements of southern rock and soul have performed at a series of established blues festivals.
Richmond-based newcomers Fool strip it back to basics with an energy driven power trio set up reminiscent of 60's titans blues rock Blue Cheer.
Pete Dublo a London music and art scene veteran, has helped to catalyse the scene with regular blues focused events in Bethnal Green and Hackney Pete and also has his own
rockabilly blues group named The Dublo.
Longtime Seasick Steve associate , PR guru and stage actor Joe Cushley has been an enthusiastic supporter of this growing scene putting regular events at The Blues Kitchen in Camden and his Balling the Jack Radio show on Resonance FM.
With Constant tours, gigs, club nights  and record releases organised collectively and individually, The New British Blues Explosion gives a much needed jolt of energy to London's flagging grassroots music scene, with many tastemakers, respected media outlets, and industry figures already taking note.
